South Branch - Petersburg - grant4

May 9 - About normal to a little low for this time of year.  The smallmouth are biting and will be spawning anytime.  I caught several this week that were full.  A welcome sign.

Greenbrier County - millatime
October 21 -
Casting small midge drys to rising fish becomes increasingly more common to the dry fly angler, although trout can still be taken with large stimulator flies and parachute tied mayfly imitations. The terrestrial bite is slowing down, yet on a good warm day, the fish may respond as if a terrestrial fly was its last meal. Take extra precaution to wading in certain trout stream areas that may be disturb spawning grounds for the fall-mating wild browns and native brook trout. The smallmouth streams and rivers in our area are really heating up, with rumors of 5-6 pound smallies being caught and released. Please pick-up and pack-out all of your trash and used fishing line and tippets, lets keep this state looking like Almost Heaven.

Tygart River - Valley Head  - Top Rod

Feb 18 - Normal flows for this time of year.  Water really has not fluctuated to much lately its pretty consistent.

Slaty Fork of the Elk River - ERTC

May 18 -  The water temp is 56.  The rising water temps & water levels have produced some excellent angling for Inn guests and guided fishing clients. A mixture of sun, clouds and light showers the last several days produced a buffet of bugs for hungry trout on the Elk, Cranberry & Williams rivers. Hatches seem to be focusing around sunnier periods of the day. The list consist of #14 sulphers both on the dry, parachute , emerger and nymphs, #16 & 18 bwo's and the parachute, #16 usual , # 16,#14 parachute adams, # 16 ,#14 march browns. Madam X in a size 16 has been successful at dusk. Trout from 8- 20 inches were released all week with water levels.

Elk River C&R  - elkfisher (Valley Fork Fly Fishing)

May 1 - Well the action is definately picking up ! On Elk Springs the Grannom Caddis is carrying things with "flocks" of caddis sweeping up river . Best way to fish the hatch is a soft hackle Grannom fished down and away and allowed to swing up at the end of the drift . On Slaty the Blue Quills are the most prolific at the moment and once again subsurface is paying off best . Be advised though that you had better have both Blue Quill and Quill Gordon spinners in the evenings . A couple of the Gordon falls have been spectacular on both stretches .....Look for the March Browns to arrive in force within the week ... See you on the river !

Middle Wheeling Creek DH  - woolybugger

March 10 - The water was pretty low and clear.  Fish were a little spooky.  Not sure active there but a slow presentation found some.
