The Snake by Jason Butcher

Materials:
You are either going to have to have 2 vices, or a way to rig up both hooks for tying it. I put the back hook (after completing the harness) in my vice, attach a steel leader to the front hook and attach the steel leader to a screw I put in the wall.
To tie the harmess, I take 2 #4 hooks and a 6"-9" piece of steel leader (with the clip and barrel swivel cut off).
After
you get your “harness” finished, hook it up to your tying
“rig”.
That
is how you tie the pattern… you can dictate your fly length by
measuring the harness as you connect the back section to the front
hook… get a tape measure and measure your fly before you cinch
down the steel leader to the front hook (while tying your
harness).
The pattern that has done the best for me is golden tan
marabou… but as you see, you can tie it in any color combination
you wish.
This pattern can take you up to 15 minutes to tie, so take your time and do a good job, I’ve raised 9 musky and caught 3 on the same pattern with no harm or malfunction to the fly. If you have any kinks in your fly, you can always bend the steel leader section back into place. I like to use a 30# leader for my harness, as it moves better (as it is thinner wire and moves more freely).
