Jailbird
by Philip Smith
| Hook: Size
16 to 20 curved shank hook (I use Mustad 81001BR) |

|
| Thread: What else? Hot Orange! |
| Body: BWO colored dubbing |
| Wingcase: Strip of white foam |
| Ribbing: the
tying thread |
This
fly is called the Jailbird. I believe it was originated by Connecticut guide
Marla Blair (www.marlablair.com)
Instructions
to Tie:
1. I get thin sheets of cheap foam at Michaels (or
other craft department). Take the foam and cut a thin strip. Tie it in with
the tag of the foam towards the back of the hook where you want your wing case
to be.
2. Pull the foam forward leaving plenty of room
behind the eye and make a couple of wraps.
3. Then pull the foam back over itself again and
tie off at the back. Cut off excess foam.
4. Figure 8 some dubbing under the foam wing case.
Then wrap/taper dubbing back to the bend of the hook making sure that dubbing
runs out just as you get to the bend.
5. Wrap your tying thread forward for ribbing and
tie off.
6. Fish as a dropper and catch a big brown trout.

Notes: I suppose if you tied it in even smaller
sizes you could rename it the Jailbait.
